COMBATIVE SPORT CHARITY EVENT RAISES $60,000

Initiated by Jelena Mrdjenovich and Nick Lees, and organized with the able assistance of Mel Lubovac of KO Boxing and the ownership and staff at the Chateau Lacombe Hotel, an evening of combative sports skits was held in the ballroom of the Chateau Lacombe Hotel as a fund-raiser for two charities, the CHED radio “Santa Anonymous” charity and for the Salvation Army. The charities split $60,000. The funds were generated through ticket sales for the evening and a silent auction that was outstanding!

There was a sumo-wrestling display put on by two sisters in rather large sumo wrestling costumes that proved to be hilarious. This was followed by a vicious, 3 round boxing match between Jelena and Nick, which nearly resulted in an actual blow. Nick took three or four standing 8 counts that allowed him to catch his breath from the laughter and camaraderie. Referee Andy Social declared Nick the winner due to age (Jelena won the boxing decision as expected, but was gracious in allowing Nick to pretend he was Rocky for a brief instant).

A number of photos commemorate this worthwhile event benefitting two charities which are very active at this time of year.
