The ECSC successfully staged the 34th Annual Combative Sports Awards Dinner May 17th, 2011 at the Chateau Louis Hotel and Conference Centre. With more than 175 tickets sold, this was the largest dinner audience in the history of the ECSC awards dinner.
Since the event was not held in 2009, awards were presented to the Athlete of the Year in boxing, MMA and wrestling for each of 2009 and 2010.
Each year the ECSC also reviews nominations for induction into the ECSC Honour Roll for either lifetime achievement or for an outstanding athletic accomplishment. Covering 2009 and 2010, five persons were inducted into the ECSC Honour Roll. They were:
The ECSC awards grants of $1,000.00 to up to 5 amateur not-for-profit combative sports clubs in Edmonton annually. Covering 2009 and 2010 five clubs were chosen to receive grants. They are: The South Side Amateur Boxing Club, the Bears Wrestling Club, The Avenue Boxing Club, the Edmonton Wrestling Club and the Main Event Boxing Club.
The MC for the evening was Jason Gregor from the Team 1260. The guest speakers for the evening were: Gord Bertie, Sean "Massive Damage" Dunster, Susan Haas, Jelena Mrdjenovich and John Barry.
A silent auction and 50-50 draw raised more than $1600.00 that was shared with the MS Society of Alberta. The 2010 recognition dinner will be held TUESDAY, JANUARY 24, 2011.
