Lauren has a Masters of Library and Information Studies as well as a Bachelor of Arts (with Distinction) in English and a Certificate in Management, all from the University of Alberta. A determined and driven scholar, she has been awarded scholarships at the undergraduate and graduate level. With several years of work in libraries at the regional and provincial level, Lauren is experienced in engaging a wide range of communities, from small rural to large urban settings. She has worked with provincial committees on establishing standards of practice and service in libraries, and focuses on establishing realistic and agreeable consensus among stakeholders.

Participation in professional communities is an important part of her work life; she is an active public speaker and conference lecturer, and has published articles on leadership and employee training. She is an award-winning member of Toastmasters and coaches public speaking, communication, and business presentation skills.

A lifelong Edmontonian and long time martial arts enthusiast, Lauren is excited to contribute to Edmonton's combative sports scene through the ECSC. Since her introduction to martial arts at age 14, Lauren has studied a variety of combative techniques. She currently trains in Wado karate and Muai Thai, has competed in TaeKwon Do, and has also studied Judo and wrestling. Lauren is a senior student and assistant instructor at the University of Alberta and Strathcona High School wado karate dojos.
